Purpose of the position
The Security Officer is responsible for protecting and safeguarding all guests (internal and external), their belongings, and all hotel properties, assets, and grounds. This is achieved through the effective use and coordination of the hotel’s people, equipment, and provisions, while following hotel policies, procedures, and standards. The role is also expected to be proactive in maintaining and/or improving department profitability.
Key accountabilities
- Manage day-to-day security operations within budgeted guidelines and to the highest standards, coordinating resources to ensure issues are resolved efficiently.
- Maintain a complete understanding of all security operations, the property layout, and the location and functioning of operational equipment.
- Complete all duties (including opening and closing duties, set-ups, cleaning, and preparations before, during, and after operations) in line with established procedures.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service by interacting with guests and visitors, anticipating needs, responding promptly, learning from feedback, maintaining files of guest preferences, and escalating concerns when a guest or visitor is not satisfied.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge and ability in security standards, daily work requirements, guest etiquette, property and ground layouts, staff structure, facilities, services, and events, and continuously strive for improvement.
- Keep the workstation well organised and neat, and report issues to superiors.
- Ensure compliance with security standards and preventative measures, including proper key control guidelines for loss prevention across the property.
- Support investigations and compile reports and records in a timely manner for theft, loss, suspicious movements, or other security incidents.
- Assist external government and law enforcement agencies with investigations and handling of crimes, incidents, or security matters involving the hotel, employees, and/or guests, including liaising with VIP/government guests and their private security personnel.
- Assist in planning, delivering, and facilitating regular staff awareness training and advise key personnel on security procedures.
- Patrol the property grounds, floors, and boundary areas to monitor general security and watch for suspicious persons or unusual activities that may affect the wellbeing of guests and employees.
Qualifications and skills
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Private security lisence.
- Minimum 1 year of previous experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Active listening skills.
- Ability to speak, read, and write Greek and English. Additional languages (Russian, etc.) are an advantage.
