SPECIAL SCIENTIST POSITION (TEACHING)
The Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus invites applications for up to two (2) Special Scientist positions (Teaching) in English Literature for the Fall Semester 2024–2025, pending final approval and funding by the University authorities.

TEACHING REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate(s) will be required to teach either one or both of the following courses:
ENG 120 Introduction to the Study of Poetry (three teaching hours per week)
ENG 5XX Elective course in Anglophone literature and cultural studies
(for third- and fourth-year students on the BA in English Language and Literature offered by the Department; three teaching hours per week)
The successful candidate(s) will also be expected to administer and mark the final exam(s) for the course(s) they will teach. Renewal of the Special Scientist’s (or Special Scientists’) contract for one more semester may be possible.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS
Special Scientist (PhD holder) remuneration is 68 euro (gross) per teaching hour and paid employment is for 15 weeks. Teaching duties begin on 05th September 2024, ending on 19th December 2024. Payment is made as follows: €68 per hour x teaching hours x 15 weeks for the Fall Semester 2024–2025.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should hold a PhD on a relevant subject.
Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Applicants should however ensure, before applying, that in case they are selected they will be residing in Cyprus on a full-time basis during the employment period;
submission of application implies acceptance of this condition. Acceptance of this term must be also explicitly stated in the letter of application.
In case they are selected, candidates from outside the European Union have the responsibility to obtain a visa (if required) and the necessary work permit for their employment in Cyprus in a timely manner, prior to the beginning of their contact and the assumption of their teaching duties.

APPLICATION
Applicants should submit the following:
I. Letter of application (in which applicants are required to clearly indicate the course or courses they are applying to teach, explaining why they believe they are qualified to teach this course or both courses)
II. Curriculum Vitae, with full contact details
III. Copies of degrees and transcripts (the successful candidates will be asked to submit certified copies from the Ministry of Education of Cyprus, if degrees were acquired in Cyprus, or from the respective institution abroad)
IV. Sample course syllabi for the course(s) they are applying to teach.
If applying for the first time to the Department, applicants must also arrange for two academic referees to send letters of recommendation directly to it (see below). The names and addresses of these referees must be submitted with the application.
In case an applicant is employed in the public or wider public sector of the Republic of Cyprus, they must obtain in advance permission to work at the University from the appropriate Department/Ministry, or wider public sector authority.
