Part-time Waldorf EAL Teacher (Maternity Cover)

The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus opened for the first 500 students in September 2022, and is now looking for competent, experienced and, above all, passionate Part-time Waldorf EAL Teacher (Maternity Cover) to join the team September 2024 - January 2025.

We are also in the process of planning our new school campus on a beautiful 50,000 m2 site to be completed approximately by end of 2025, that will include kindergartens, elementary and high schools, an international boarding school, and accommodation for teachers. This is a great opportunity to join a growing school on the cusp of a major turning point.

Cyprus regulations require applicants to have a university degree in Education Pedagogic recognised by KY.S.A.T.S. (The Cyprus Council of Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications) and the ability to pass a background check.

The Position:

The Part-time Waldorf EAL Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality English language instruction according to Waldorf curriculum to students with diverse linguistic backgrounds, helping them develop their language skills and integrate successfully into the academic environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of language acquisition principles and experience working with multilingual learners.

General responsibilities:

  1. Plan and deliver effective English language instruction to students with varying proficiency levels, taking into account their individual learning needs and backgrounds.
  2. Develop engaging and culturally relevant lesson plans and materials that promote language acquisition and support students’ academic progress.
  3. Provide differentiated instruction and scaffolding techniques to support students in their language development journey.
  4. Assess students’ language skills regularly using a variety of formative and summative assessment tools, and use assessment data to inform instructional planning.
  5. Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff to support EAL students’ access to the curriculum and facilitate their academic success.
  6. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and empowered to take risks in their language learning.
  7. Communicate regularly with students’ families to provide updates on their progress, solicit feedback, and offer strategies for supporting language development at home.
  8. Stay abreast of best practices in EAL instruction and incorporate research-based strategies into teaching practice.
  9. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of second language acquisition theories.
  10. Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance, and contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the EAL program.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Applied Linguistics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Certification in ESL/EAL teaching (e.g., CELTA, TEFL, TESOL) highly desirable.
  3. Previous experience teaching English language learners, preferably in a school or educational setting.
  4. Strong understanding of language acquisition principles and proficiency in implementing communicative language teaching methodologies.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and support students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to a professional learning community.
  7. Flexibility, adaptability, and a passion for working with multilingual learners.

Working Hours: 10:30 - 14:30
