THE POSITION

The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics is looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow for its Neuropathology Laboratory / Neurology Clinic A. 

The position is for a period of 36 months and funded by the Research Promotion Foundation. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will work on a research project, in collaboration with Cambridge University, to study the development of mouse pre-implantation embryos using genetic manipulation. He or she will spend two months at Cambridge University. 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

PhD degree in any Biological Science or closely related fields. 

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Previous experience in mouse embryology and/or embryo pre-implantation and working with transgenic mice.

THE POSITIONS
 
The Molecular Genetics Thalassaemia Department of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics has the following vacancies:
 
 
1. Laboratory Scientific Officer (Ref. Code: 251118(a)) 
 
The successful candidate will become part of our gene editing and therapy group. Research focus will be the development of gene therapy and reverse-genetics approaches for haemoglobinopathies based on lentiviral and gene editing technology, including work in primary human cells. 
 
The position is for a period of 36 months. 
 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • BA/BSc or equivalent degree in any Biological Science or closely related field.
 
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
  • MSc or PhD degree in biomedical and closely related sciences
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Previous work experience in genome editing or viral vectors
  • Previous experience in chimeric mouse models 
 
2. Laboratory Scientific Officer (Ref. Code: 251118(b))
 
The successful candidate will work on a research project that involves the development of electronic infrastructure for haemoglobinopathies and rare anaemias, particularly the development of biological databases and bioinformatics tools, as well as computational analysis of biological data.
 
The position is for a period of 24 months. 
 
 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • BSc or equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Computational Biology
  
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
  • MSc or PhD degree in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology or closely related fields
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Documented skills and experience in:
  1. Web-development, e.g. using PHP, Javascript and AJAX
  2. Design and development of relational database systems, e.g. using MySQL
  3. Prior research in bioinformatics and/or eHealth
  4. Data mining and data analysis 
 
3. Laboratory Scientific Officer (Ref. Code: 251118(c))
 
The successful candidate will work on a research project that involves the collection, curation and analysis of data related to epidemiology and genetics of haemoglobinopathies and rare anaemias.
 
The position is for a period of 36 months. 
 
        
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • BA/BSc or equivalent degree in any Biological Science or closely related fields. 
 
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
  • MSc or PhD degree in Molecular Biology or Epidemiology or closely related fields
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication skills
