The PV Technology Laboratory of the University of Cyprus announces one (1) vacancy for full-time Special Scientist (post-doctoral level) to work on research programmes related to advanced metrology for PV devices. It should be noted that one (1) month of full-time employment at the University of Cyprus corresponds to 140 working hours.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.

• Proven research experience in photovoltaics or solar energy systems.

• Fluency in English (written and spoken)- equivalent to C1 level

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILSS:

• Experience with PV characterization equipment and accelerated aging testing.

• Experience in programming languages such as python or semiconductor physics simulation tools.

• Previous participation in relevant national or European research funded projects.

• Ability to work in a team environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct high-quality research in the topic of advanced characterization of photovoltaic (PV) technologies focusing more on new and emerging PV technologies and PV applications. Although various types of next generation PV technologies exist, they still face various challenges particularly as regards metastability, long-term stability and field reliability. Our work at the lab focuses on characterising and understanding the underlying causes and the mechanisms behind these challenges, in order to help these technologies reach commercialisation. In particular, the successful candidate will be working on:

• Designing, executing and optimising experiments related to photovoltaic device characterisation and aging (indoors and outdoors) as well as device performance analysis.

• Analysing large datasets from laboratory and field measurements, applying statistical or other methods to extract actionable insights.

• Developing standardized measurement protocols for next generation PV technologies

• Preparing high-quality research outputs—peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and conference presentations.

• Engaging with industry and academic partners to translate research findings into practical applications.

• Contributing to project implementation and management of current relevant running projects of the PV Technology Laboratory of University of Cyprus by coordinating research activities, tracking milestones, and ensuring deliverables are met on time.

• Supporting the supervision and mentoring of graduate students and research assistants.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

The initial contract is for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance. The monthly gross salary for full-time employment (i.e., 140 hours per month) is in the range of €2200 to €3800, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific duties. Employee contributions to the various Government Funds will be deducted from the aforementioned amounts. 13th salary is already incorporated in the gross amount.
