Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Water Department of EEWRC Centre on a full-time basis (100%) for its premises in Athalassas Campus.

The successful candidate will be working in the framework of the Horizon Europe EUROSION Project ("European Soil Erosion Monitoring and Modelling Network for Sustainable Agricultural Land Management"). This project is a cooperation of 24 research partners from EU and associated countries, coordinated by Wageningen University.

In the framework of the EUROSION project we are establishing long-term wind and water erosion monitoring nodes in Cyprus.

Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

  • Support the installation and maintenance of a runoff and suspended sediment sampling station in a 1km² mountain catchment
  • Support the installation of a wind erosion monitoring site in the agricultural plain during the June – November season.
  • Sample and analyze soil and vegetation characteristics in the field and in the lab
  • Collect and analyze dust samples (MWAC samplers)
  • Support the maintenance of data loggers and environmental sensors
  • Participating in drone surveys

Position Specific Required Qualifications:

  • An accredited professional qualification in Earth, Environmental or Agricultural Sciences or a related field
  • Experience in field surveys for soil, water and plant analysis
  • Experience in soil laboratory analysis
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Driver’s license

Position Specific Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of water and wind erosion processes and equations
  • Experience in using dataloggers and environmental sensors
  • Knowledge and experience in the analysis of environmental data
  • Field experience with drone surveys
  • MSc degree in Earth, Environmental or Agricultural Sciences or a related field will be considered an advantage

Duration of appointment:

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 24 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

Remuneration details:

Salary Band: CYI2(1-13)

Position’s Starting Salary: CYI2.1 - €24882.65
