The Nines hotel, a luxury hospitality destination in Ayia Napa, is looking for a skilled and proactive Chief Engineer to join our leadership team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineering professional who understands that exceptional guest experiences depend on safe, efficient, reliable, and well-maintained hotel facilities.
As Chief Engineer, you will take responsibility for the hotel's engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring that all systems, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure operate safely and efficiently while meeting the highest standards of quality and performance.
You will lead the hotel's engineering and maintenance function, working closely with the CEO and Operations and F&B teams, and external contractors to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the hotel.
You will be responsible for preventative maintenance, technical compliance, energy efficiency, troubleshooting, and the development of a strong maintenance culture across the hotel.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel.

Ensure all hotel facilities, equipment, machinery, and building systems are maintained to the highest operational and safety standards.

Develop and implement effective preventative maintenance programmes to minimise equipment failures and operational disruption.

Carry out regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, plant rooms, and technical installations.

Respond promptly to technical issues and breakdowns, ensuring fast and effective resolution.

Plan and coordinate maintenance schedules, repairs, upgrades, and improvement projects.

Work closely with hotel management and department heads to identify and address maintenance requirements.

Monitor engineering-related budgets, maintenance costs, spare parts, and inventory.

Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational cost control.

Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety, fire safety, environmental, technical, and statutory requirements.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, certificates, and documentation.

Ensure all required inspections, testing, servicing, and certifications are completed on schedule.

Support hotel renovation, refurbishment, and new-project initiatives from a technical and engineering perspective.

Ensure emergency procedures and contingency plans are in place for critical systems and equipment.

Promote a strong culture of safety, preventative maintenance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Be available to provide technical support during emergencies and critical operational situations.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a technically strong and dependable professional who combines engineering expertise with leadership, organisation, and a hands-on approach.
Requirements
- Degree, Diploma, or recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with previous experience in a senior engineering position.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general hotel maintenance.
- Proven experience managing and developing an engineering or maintenance team.
- Strong knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance practices.
- Excellent understanding of health & safety, fire safety, environmental, and technical compliance requirements.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying potential issues before they become operational problems.
- Good financial awareness and experience with maintenance budgets and cost control.
- Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions during technical emergencies and under pressure.
- A practical, hands-on approach with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence.
