CareerFinders, on behalf of our client, a well-established and highly respected company operating within the FMCG sector, we are seeking to recruit a Financial Accountant to join their growing team based in Nicosia. Reporting to the CFO, the successful applicant will play a key role within the Finance function, overseeing a small team of bookkeepers, whilst remaining actively involved in the day-to-day accounting operations of the business. The ideal candidate will possess 5+ years solid accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and previous experience supervising or reviewing the work of others. This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being involved in the detail, while also taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the wider Finance team's work. An attractive remuneration and benefits package is on offer, which includes a competitive base salary, 13th & 14th salary & Provident Fund.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Report directly to the CFO and support the smooth and effective operation of the Finance Department.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and support a team of bookkeepers, providing guidance and reviewing their work.
  • Review bookkeeping entries and ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Take a hands-on role in the day-to-day accounting activities of the business.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure all transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
  • Perform regular bank, supplier, customer, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activities and ensure outstanding balances are appropriately followed up.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly and year-end management accounts and financial reports.
  • Support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and financial analysis as required.
  • Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and other statutory filings, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Support the preparation of information and schedules required for external auditors and other professional advisors.
  • Monitor and review the accuracy of financial data within the company's accounting systems.
  • Identify discrepancies, errors, and opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting procedures and internal controls across the Finance function.
  • Liaise with banks, auditors, suppliers, customers, and other external parties as required.
  • Provide ad hoc financial and accounting support to the CFO and wider management team.

 

Key Skills/Experience: 

  • University degree, diploma, or professional qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field will be considered an advantage but is not essential.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally gained within a structured commercial environment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of accounting principles and day-to-day accounting processes.
  • Previous experience reviewing the work of bookkeepers or supervising junior accounting staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on capacity and taking ownership of accounting activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and support a small team.
  • Good knowledge of VAT and Cyprus accounting requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with accounting software/ERP systems will be considered an advantage.
  • Fluency in Greek and English, both verbal and written, will be considered an advantage.
  • A proactive, dependable, and commercially minded approach to work.
