Maintenance Specialist – School Boarding House

The Island Private School Boarding House is looking for a proactive, dependable, knowledgeable Maintenance Specialist to keep our property in top-tier shape. If you have a sharp eye for detail, strong practical know-how, and a hands-on attitude, this could be your next role.

This role suits an experienced professional who takes pride in property care, understands how equipment and facility systems work, and can handle everyday technical challenges. You will act as the eyes and ears of the property, combining facility oversight with hands-on daily care to support a seamless guest experience.

What you will do
  • Systems and repairs: Keep HVAC, plumbing, and electrical units running smoothly.
  • Daily walkthroughs: Spot issues early and complete minor fixes in rooms and common areas.
  • Pool and grounds: Monitor pool chemistry and keep walkways clean.
  • Vendor coordination: Work with external specialists for major technical jobs.
What we are looking for
  • Experienced pro: Strong background in facility maintenance (hospitality experience is a plus!).
  • Problem solver: Strong diagnostic skills, knowing when to fix an issue and when to call a specialist.
Qualifications and experience
  • Proven experience: Extensive background in general facility maintenance, trade work, or property operations (hotel/hospitality experience is a plus).
  • Technical knowledge: Practical understanding of general mechanics, plumbing, basic electrical, and routine building maintenance.
  • Problem solving: Strong diagnostic skills, knowing when a fix is quick and when to bring in specialized trade contractors.
  • Reliable and self-motivated: Works independently, takes pride in high standards, and pays close attention to detail.
  • Fluent English and a good communicator: Able to liaise effectively with management, team members, and external vendors.
Key duties and responsibilities

🛠️ Facility oversight and equipment management

  • Oversee and monitor key property systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment) to ensure continuous, reliable operation.
  • Carry out minor repairs, adjustments, and preventative maintenance across guest rooms, common areas, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Identify complex issues early and coordinate with external specialized contractors/technicians when major repairs or maintenance are required.
  • Inspect completed vendor work to ensure high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

🌿 Daily property care and grounds maintenance

  • Complete daily morning walkthroughs to inspect grounds, guest areas, and operational equipment.
  • Maintain outdoor amenities, including pool care (monitoring chemistry, skimming, and filtration checks) according to the regulation.
  • Keep walkways and outdoor grounds clean using light equipment (e.g., leaf blower, light sweeping).
  • Provide practical assistance across departments when an experienced hand is needed for facility-related tasks.
Bonus skills/experience
  • Other languages such as Greek or Russian
