Edge Platform Engineer - Akamai - Assistant Team Leader

The Role:

We’re looking for an Edge Platform Engineer – Akamai – Assistant Team Leader to support the growth and technical excellence of our infrastructure delivery team. In this role, you’ll combine hands-on platform engineering with leadership responsibilities, ensuring the design, optimization, and absolute reliability of our end-to-end application delivery ecosystem.

You’ll actively drive technical mentorship, champion advanced automation and testing practices, and integrate AI-assisted tools to push the boundaries of platform performance. This is an exciting opportunity to lead technically complex edge projects, foster a culture of engineering reliability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a seamless, high-performance digital experience.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

  • Define department KPIs and personal targets in alignment with corporate goals, providing coaching, feedback, and mentorship to drive team performance and motivation.

  • Design and optimize Akamai Ion properties, GTM, and Edge DNS strategies to ensure high availability, intelligent load distribution, and efficient traffic flow.

  • Lead delivery optimizations by analyzing Cache Hit Ratios, latency, and offload metrics to maximize efficiency and minimize origin egress costs.

  • Architect multi-origin failover patterns, origin shielding, and complex request flow customizations to ensure platform stability and deep-level troubleshooting.

  • Manage the full certificate lifecycle and TLS protocols, ensuring edge configurations meet industry standards and support InfoSec policies (WAF/Bot Manager) without performance degradation.

  • Drive the adoption of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), define engineering best practices, and implement standardized testing and validation for all edge configurations.

  • Implement monitoring tools (mPulse, DataStream 2) to track SLIs/SLOs and provide senior management with visibility into CDN health and real-user experience.

  • Partner with developers to onboard new services and serve as the lead technical contact for Akamai vendor escalations and feature reviews.

  • Participate in 24/7 on-call support and lead incident response and post-mortems to drive continuous improvement and intelligent self-service models.

  • Identify and implement AI-assisted tools for configuration analysis and operational insights to enhance team capabilities.

  • Offer technical expertise and project support to all Group companies as directed by leadership.

Main requirements:

  • BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field 

  • 7 + years of experience in  DevOps, Platform Engineering,  with at least 3-5 years of experience managing and architecting solutions on the Akamai platform, with a deep focus on Akamai Ion property configuration and advanced rule management  

  • Deep understanding of  DNS  and  TLS / certificate lifecycle management  for public-facing applications

  • Experience with content delivery networks, such as Akamai and/or CDN  

  • Solid experience working in  cloud environments  (AWS preferred)  

  • DevOps mindset with experience in automation, CI/CD, and operational ownership

  • Strong understanding of HTTP/S, caching, headers, redirects, compression, and origin behaviour

  • Ability to design,   and troubleshoot full request flows from the client through Akamai Edge to cloud or on-premises origins

  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation for both engineering teams and senior leadership
