The PV Technology Laboratory of the University of Cyprus announces one (1) vacancy for a part-time Special Scientist (Research) position to support ongoing research activities within the laboratory focusing on renewable energy technologies, with a particular emphasis on emerging photovoltaic (PV) technologies. The role will involve contributing to research programs related to the characterization of photovoltaic devices and modules, laboratory and outdoor performance testing, solar resource analysis, and data-driven evaluation of PV system behavior under real operating conditions. The position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with advanced PV measurement techniques, experimental data analysis, and outdoor monitoring of photovoltaic systems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently enrolled in a scientific, engineering, or related discipline, preferably at an early stage of your Bachelor/Master studies Basic knowledge of solar cells and semiconductor physics

• Basic Python programming skills, especially data handling or analysis

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); familiarity with digital document management systems will be considered an advantage

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates possessing the following will be considered an advantage:

• Strong interest in photovoltaics, renewable energy, or experimental research

• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and contributing to shared goals

• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and communicate your results clearly • Ability to present and explain your work to others

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

• Support scientific projects related to photovoltaic (PV) technologies

• Participate in characterisation activities for solar cells and modules, including data acquisition and quality control

• Assist with data extraction, processing, and basic analysis from laboratory and outdoor PV measurements

• Support outdoor PV testing activities, including setup, monitoring, and documentation of experiments

• Provide technical support for ongoing experiments, measurements, and infrastructure

• Assist in the preparation of presentations, figures, and documentation for internal meetings and external communication

• Help with the construction, organisation, and maintenance of laboratory and test structures

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

The position is offered on a part-time basis under a six (6)-month contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and project needs. The engagement will be on an hourly basis, with a workload of up to 60 working hours per month. The gross monthly remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience and is expected to range between €10.00 per hour to €17.41 per hour. Employee contributions to the various Government Funds will be deducted from the aforementioned amounts. 13th salary is already incorporated in the gross amount.
