ONE (1) POSITION FOR A SPECIAL SCIENTIST RESEARCH

Title: Special Scientist Research Associate (Media / Audiovisual Analysis & Editing)

The Department of French and European Studies of the University of Cyprus would like to announce one (1) part-time position (35 hours per month) for employment as a Special Scientist (Research Associate) within the framework of the start-up funding of the Lecturer and Principal Investigator, Landry Digeon, titled TV Series Adaptations and European Identity.”

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Special Scientist will support the implementation of the research project and, under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, will be expected to undertake the following duties, indicative of:

• Collection and organization of audiovisual materials (episodes, clips, subtitles, transcripts)

• Annotation, coding, and qualitative analysis of audiovisual data

• Assistance in the comparative analysis of TV series and their adaptations

• Support in video editing and preparation of audiovisual research outputs

• Contribution to the documentation and structuring of research data

• Participation in research meetings and coordination activities

Note: Duties may be adjusted depending on the project's implementation stage.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

• Master’s degree in Film Studies, Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Digital Humanities, or a related field

• Very good command of the English language

• Demonstrated interest in audiovisual analysis and research

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD (completed or in progress) will be considered an asset

• Experience in video editing (e.g., Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve)

• Experience with qualitative analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, ELAN)

• Knowledge of French will be considered an asset

The employment of persons who have reached the age of 65 years old, at the commencement date of employment, is prohibited.

TERMS OF CONTRACT

The duration of employment will be for the period from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026. The gross monthly earnings will be €541.50. From the monthly gross earnings, the University of Cyprus will deduct the relevant sum which corresponds to the contributions of the employee to the various Governmental Funds and, if applicable, income tax. There is no provision of 13th salary.
