The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior .NET / C# Engineer to join our Engineering team and contribute to the design, development and operation of secure, scalable and highly available financial systems.

In this role, you will take ownership of backend services and integrations supporting mission-critical financial transactions. You will work across APIs, databases, messaging, authentication and distributed systems, ensuring solutions are reliable, performant and secure.

You will work closely with Product, QA, DevOps, Security and other Engineering teams to deliver robust solutions within a regulated fintech environment.

C - Customer

• Deliver secure, reliable and high-performing backend services that support customers, merchants and internal users across financial products.

• Understand product and business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.

• Design APIs and integrations that provide reliable and consistent services to internal and external consumers.

• Ensure financial transaction processing provides accurate, consistent and timely outcomes for customers.

• Support timely resolution of production issues that may affect customers or critical business services.

• Ensure technical solutions support a positive, secure and reliable customer experience.

A – Accountability

• Take technical ownership of backend services and features from requirements and design through implementation, deployment and production support.

• Ensure services are designed and implemented to appropriate standards of scalability, availability, security and maintainability.

• Ensure financial transaction processing maintains data consistency, integrity, concurrency control and idempotency.

• Own the quality and reliability of APIs and integrations developed within the team.

• Ensure appropriate authentication and authorisation controls are implemented across backend services.

• Maintain high standards of code quality through testing, code reviews and appropriate engineering practices.

• Identify and address application, API and database performance issues.

• Take ownership of complex production incidents and drive technical issues through to resolution.

• Identify technical risks and escalate or address them before they impact delivery or production services.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of system architecture, engineering practices and development standards.

R – Responsibility

• Design, develop, test and maintain backend services using C#, .NET and ASP.NET Core.

• Design secure, maintainable and high-performance REST APIs and service integrations.

• Design and implement solutions for processing financial transactions safely and consistently.

• Design and implement asynchronous and event-driven integrations using RabbitMQ or equivalent messaging technologies.

• Design and maintain relational database schemas, transactions and data-access patterns.

• Develop and optimise SQL queries, indexes and database operations.

• Identify and resolve application, database and API performance bottlenecks.

• Implement authentication and authorisation using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT and Keycloak or equivalent IAM platforms.

• Apply secure coding, API security and data-protection best practices.

• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code using appropriate design patterns and engineering principles.

• Develop and maintain unit, integration and automated tests.

• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews and code reviews.

• Troubleshoot production issues using logs, metrics, distributed tracing and monitoring tools.

• Produce and maintain technical documentation covering APIs, integrations, architecture and critical system flows.

• Follow Agile/Scrum development practices and contribute to effective software delivery.

E – Engagement

• Build strong, collaborative relationships with engineers, Product, QA, DevOps, Security and other teams across the organisation.

• Work closely with Product and business stakeholders to understand requirements and provide appropriate technical solutions.

• Communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies and limitations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Support and mentor less experienced engineers through code reviews, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.

• Share technical knowledge, lessons learned and engineering best practices across the team.

• Collaborate effectively during production incidents and support root-cause analysis and remediation activities.

• Contribute positively to team discussions, engineering initiatives and technical improvement projects.

• Promote a strong engineering culture focused on quality, ownership, security, reliability and continuous improvement.

Core Competencies

• Strong knowledge of C#, .NET and ASP.NET Core.

• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles and software design patterns.

• Strong experience designing and developing REST APIs.

• Strong knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL.

• Experience with RabbitMQ or equivalent asynchronous messaging technologies.

• Understanding of reliable messaging concepts including retries, dead-letter queues, duplicate handling and idempotent processing.

• Strong understanding of transaction consistency and distributed-system failure scenarios.

• Strong understanding of API security, authentication and authorisation.

• Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and JWT.

• Experience with Keycloak or equivalent Identity and Access Management platforms.

• Experience developing high-throughput, mission-critical transactional systems.

• Experience with application monitoring, structured logging, metrics and distributed tracing.

• Strong knowledge of Git and modern CI/CD development workflows.

• Experience within fintech, banking, payments or another regulated financial environment is highly desirable.

• Strong analytical and structured approach to technical problem solving.

• Clear and effective written and verbal communication.

• Strong collaborative approach when working across Engineering, Product, QA, DevOps and Security.

Skills and Requirement

• BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong recent experience developing backend systems using C# and .NET.

• Strong understanding of software architecture and engineering principles.

• Strong database and SQL capabilities.

• Experience with distributed systems and asynchronous messaging.

• Strong understanding of application and API security.

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Experience in fintech, payments, banking or another regulated financial environment is highly desirable.
