The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for a Scientific Coordinator with project management expertise. The Scientific Coordinator will take responsibility for coordinating and supporting the initiation, and implementation of the unit’s research projects. This includes not only administrative matters, but also engagement in the strategic development of the project portfolio and the research agenda of the appropriate research unit. The successful candidate is expected to drive the project implementation and communication with partners with minimal guidance.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities:

1. Oversight of research projects (various funding sources including EU, Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF))
2. Project administration/coordination (financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding organizations)
3. Participation in the planning and coordination of the Center’s activities
4. Identification of funding opportunities
5. Aiding in the development and writing of project proposals

Required Qualifications and Attributes

• A PhD degree in Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Computational, Engineering or Computer Science
• Previous experience in a research/academic institution
• Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences
• Excellent knowledge of oral and written English.
• General knowledge of computational methods and High Performance Computing
• Previous experience in writing technical proposals
• High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
• Ability to multitask and change priorities with minimum supervision
• High level organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent knowledge of office IT
• Proactive, creative, independently-thinking person with keen interest for promoting science and technology
• Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently

Preferred knowledge/experience

• Experience in project management
• Knowledge of project management techniques and software tools
• Previous experience in proposal writing for competitive funding
