As Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and safety of all hotel facilities, systems, and equipment — ensuring the property runs efficiently while delivering the highest standards of comfort and safety to guests and colleagues alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise the daily activities of the Maintenance/Engineering Department, including electricians, technicians, and outside contractors.
- Lead and motivate the engineering team, fostering strong team spirit and high service standards.
- Plan and oversee preventive and reactive maintenance programmes covering HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, swimming pools, kitchen, fire protection systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Manage energy consumption and lead sustainability/energy-efficiency initiatives across the property.
- Ensure full compliance with Cyprus legislation, fire safety codes, health & safety regulations, electromechanical services regulations and hotel brand standards.
- Prepare and manage the department's operating and capital expenditure budgets.
- Coordinate renovation, refurbishment, and small construction projects, liaising with contractors and suppliers.
- Develop staff rotas in line with occupancy levels and business needs.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment service records.
- Respond to emergency situations (power failures, water leaks, fire alarms, etc.) and lead the technical emergency response plan.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the engineering team.
- Liaise closely with General Manager and other department heads on operational needs.
Qualifications
- University Degree or Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related engineering degree (or equivalent extensive hands-on experience)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in hotel engineering/maintenance, with at least 2-3 years in a Chief Engineer or senior supervisory role, ideally in a 4–5-star resort environment
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, pool/water treatment, and building management systems (BMS)
- Familiarity with Cyprus building codes, fire safety, and OSH regulations
- Proven leadership, budgeting, and project management skills
- Good computer literacy (MS Office, AutoCAD, work order/maintenance management systems)
- Fluent in Greek and English; additional languages are an advantage
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and respond to emergencies outside regular hours
