ONE (1) POSITION FOR A SPECIAL SCIENTIST – RESEARCH

Title: Special Scientist – Research Associate (Technical / AI & Digital Humanities)

The Department of French and European Studies of the University of Cyprus would like to announce one (1) part-time position (35 hours per month) for employment as a Special Scientist (Research Associate) within the framework of the start-up funding of the Lecturer and Principal Investigator, Landry Digeon, titled “TV Series Adaptations and European Identity.”

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Special Scientist will support the implementation of the research project and, under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, will be expected to undertake the following duties, indicative of:

• Development and maintenance of workflows for audiovisual data processing

• Support for AI-assisted analysis (e.g. transcription, segmentation, metadata extraction)

• Basic scripting and automation for data organization and processing

• Contribution to the development of the project website and interactive outputs

• Organization, storage, and documentation of research data

• Participation in research coordination meetings

Note: Duties may be adjusted depending on the stage of implementation of the project.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

• Master’s degree in Digital Humanities, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field • Very good command of the English language

• Basic experience with scripting or data workflows

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD (completed or in progress) will be considered an asset

• Experience with Python or similar programming languages

• Familiarity with web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript)

• Experience with audiovisual or multimodal data

The employment of persons who have reached the age of 65 years old, at the commencement date of employment, is prohibited.

TERMS OF CONTRACT

The duration of employment will be for the period from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026. The gross monthly earnings will be €541.50. From the monthly gross earnings, the University of Cyprus will deduct the relevant sum which corresponds to the contributions of the employee to the various Governmental Funds and, if applicable, income tax. There is no provision of 13th salary.
