SPECIAL SCIENTIST POSITION

The Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus invites applications for one (1) Special Scientist position in Translation for the Fall Semester 2026/27, pending final approval and funding by the University authorities. The position can potentially be renewed for one more semester.

TEACHING REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate(s) will be required to teach:

One (1) elective course in Translation Studies and particularly ENG 396 Translation Technology

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Remuneration is 68 Euro per teaching hour for PhD holders. Teaching duties start September 7 and end no later than December 20. The paid employment is for 15 weeks throughout the Fall semester 2026/2027.Payment is made as follows: €68 per hour X teaching hours X 15 weeks for the Fall Semester.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates applying to teach the course must hold a PhD in a relevant field. All applicants must have excellent command of both English and Greek. Experience in teaching translation courses (both theoretical and practical) will be an asset.

Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Applicants should however ensure, before applying, that in case they are selected they will be residing in Cyprus on a full-time basis during the employment period; submission of application implies acceptance of this condition. Acceptance of this term must be also explicitly stated in the letter of application.

In case they are selected, candidates from outside the European Union have the responsibility to obtain a visa (if required) and the necessary work permit for their employment in Cyprus in a timely manner, prior to the beginning of their contract and the assumption of their teaching duties.

The employment of persons who have reached the age of 65 years old, at the commencement date of employment, is prohibited.

In case an applicant is employed in the public or wider public sector of the Republic of Cyprus, she/he must obtain permission -prior to signing their contract to work at the University from the appropriate Department/Ministry, or wider public sector authority.

The successful candidate will be asked to submit certified copies from the Ministry of Education of Cyprus (if degrees were acquired in Cyprus) or from the respective institution abroad.
