SPECIAL SCIENTIST (Postdoctoral Researcher in Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Systems)

The PV Technology Laboratory at the University of Cyprus announces one (1) vacancy for a full-time or part-time Special Scientist position to work on the Laboratory’s research programmes related to renewable energy sources, with particular emphasis on photovoltaic and battery systems, solar analytics and forecasting, control strategies, and demand-side management. It is noted that one (1) month of full-time employment at the University of Cyprus corresponds to 140 working hours.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s and/or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science and Computer Engineering, with a grade of at least a 2.1 class or equivalent.

• Doctoral degree in a related field.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in any of the following research fields will be considered an advantage:

➢ Proven involvement in the preparation and submission of competitive research funding proposals at national and/or European level, including drafting technical sections, developing methodologies, and contributing to budget preparation.

➢ Postdoctoral or professional engagement in externally funded research programmes at national and/or European level.

➢ Strong background in renewable energy sources, with particular emphasis on photovoltaic and energy storage systems.

➢ Solid expertise in data analysis and its application to energy systems.

➢ Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms for energy-related applications.

➢ Familiarity with forecasting algorithms, digital twin models, and advanced control strategies.

➢ Competence in power system simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments.

➢ Proficiency in programming using R and/or Python, particularly in the context of energy analytics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research according to the needs of the research projects of the Photovoltaic Technology Laboratory in the field of solar energy. Additional duties include:

• Developing software scripts.

• Supporting research project management.

• Drafting reports and deliverables.

• Compiling research publications (conference and journal papers).

• Writing and/or supporting the write-up of research funding proposals.

• Contributing to the dissemination of research outcomes and educational activities.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

The position (part-time or full-time) will be offered on a one (1) year contract, with a 6-month probation period, with the possibility of renewal based on performance.

The gross monthly salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and experience and will be between €2,200 - €3,800 (based on 140 working hours). From the monthly gross remuneration, the employee’s contributions to the relevant Government Funds will be deducted. The gross remuneration includes the proportional amount of the 13th salary, in accordance with applicable regulations.
