The Department of Physics of the University of Cyprus would like to announce one (1) full-time (140 hours per month) position in the capacity of a Special Scientist – Research (Research Fellow), in the projects “QCD Resummation and Double Parton Scattering” and “Effective Field theory for New Physics”, which are funded by the startup grants of Assistant Professors Jonathan Gaunt and Eleni Vryonidou.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The Special Scientist will perform theoretical studies in QCD resummation and Double Scattering in proton proton collisions and on the Effective Field theory framework for searches of New Physics for the Large Hadron collider. The position also involves writing scientific papers and presenting work at conferences and workshops.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics. Research experience in QCD phenomenology, in particular related to double parton scattering and/or QCD resummation, is highly desirable.
TERMS OF CONTRACT
The employment of the Special Scientist will be with a contract. The duration of the employment will be 18 months. The monthly gross salary will be €2383. From the monthly gross earnings, the University of Cyprus will deduct the relevant sum which corresponds to the contributions of the employee to the various Governmental Funds and, if applicable, income tax. There is no provision for 13th Salary.
The employment of persons who have reached the age of 65 years old, at the commencement date of employment, is prohibited.

At least the best three candidates that satisfy the required qualifications, will be interviewed by a 3-member Committee. Candidates shall be informed of the result of their application by the relevant entity.
