The Research Technical Assistant in Osteoarchaeology will support the implementation of the Bodies in Transit project, which investigates human mobility and lived experiences in Cyprus from the Bronze Age to the Ottoman period.

The project combines skeletal, isotopic, and AI-assisted analyses with archaeological and historical evidence, and seeks to understand not only where people moved, but also how mobility shaped identity, health, and lived experience across different social groups and life stages, while developing an innovative interdisciplinary framework.

The successful candidate will contribute to the analysis of archaeological human skeletal remains, the recording and management of osteological and contextual data, preparation of samples for laboratory analyses, and the interpretation and dissemination of research findings. The position offers the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary research environment in collaboration with archaeologists, historians, and international partners.

Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

  • Conduct macroscopic osteological analysis of archaeological human skeletal remains, following established laboratory protocols and quality standards.
  • Assist in the selection, documentation, and inventory of skeletal assemblages from archaeological collections.
  • Prepare samples for isotopic analyses and assist with associated laboratory documentation and logistics.
  • Contribute to data processing, statistical analyses, and the integration of osteological, archaeological, and historical datasets.
  • Support with literature reviews and the development of the project's theoretical framework.
  • Assist in preparing scientific publications, conference presentations, reports, and other dissemination materials.
  • Contribute to outreach, public engagement, and Open Science activities.

Position Specific Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or another closely related discipline.
  • Experience in the analysis and recording of archaeological human skeletal remains.
  • Experience with archaeological databases and data management.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Position Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Osteoarchaeology, Bioarchaeology, Biological Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with archaeological skeletal collections from the Eastern Mediterranean.
  • Familiarity with isotopic methods in bioarchaeology.
  • Experience with statistical analysis (e.g., R or SPSS).
  • Experience contributing to peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations.
  • Knowledge of Greek would be considered an advantage.
