The UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality announces two full-time Special Scientists positions (140 hours/month) for the purpose of supporting the Chair’s research activities.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
The positions are on a contract basis for 4 months (September 1, 2026-December 31, 2026). The monthly gross salary is equal to €1949,74. From the monthly gross earnings, the University of Cyprus will deduct the relevant sum which corresponds to the contributions of the employee to the various Governmental Funds and, if applicable, income tax. 13th Salary is already included in the aforementioned monthly salary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Special Scientists will work under the guidance of UNESCO co-chairs Dr Alexia Panayiotou (Department of Business and Public Administration) and Dr Miranda Christou (Department of Education) for a project on technology-facilitated gender-based violence. Duties include among others:
1. Conduct literature reviews on online harassment, cyberstalking, digital safety and any other AI-based technologies involved in gender-based violence.
2. Identify, retrieve and organize relevant policy documents.
3. Prepare ethics applications for qualitative research and support data collection whenever applicable.
4. Participate in research meetings and contribute to planning and development of the research agenda.
5. Contribute to writing scholarly manuscript for submission to relevant academic journals.
QUALIFICATIONS
• A degree (PhD or Research Master’s/MPhil) in Social Science or Humanities fields (including, but not limited to, Sociology, Psychology, Organization Studies, Education, Political Science, Public Policy, European Affairs, Law).
• Excellent knowledge of English and Greek
• Organizational, administrative and communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Office
• A PhD and a strong focus and/or expertise in Gender Studies are considered to be major advantages.
The employment of persons who have reached the age of 65 years old, at the commencement date of employment, is prohibited.

Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Applicants should, however, ensure that in case they are selected they will be residing in Cyprus on a full-time basis during the employment period. Submission of application implies acceptance of this condition.
