The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:

  1. The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)
  2. The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)
  3. The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)
  4. The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)
  5. The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)

Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute’s Virtual Environments Lab at the STARC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassas Campus.

The successful applicant will assist in developing software solutions, including web services and APIs to translate 3D datasets. The selected applicant will develop, test, and maintain architecture and front-end components, contributing to the creation of dashboards, charts, and interactive graphics that help users engage with Cultural Heritage representations.

Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

  • Develop Interactive Graphics: Implement frontend components using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to access 3D assets online.
  • Data Integration: Collaborate with data teams to clean, transform, and integrate datasets into frontend visualizations.
  • Front end Development: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code for web applications using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or Angular).
  • Support & Maintenance: Debug, troubleshoot, and fix bugs in existing visualization tools to ensure high performance and responsiveness.
  • Version Control: Utilize Git for version control and actively participate in code reviews.

Position Specific Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Visualization, or a related field.
  • Programming Basics: JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Visualization Knowledge: Basic familiarity with at least one visualization library (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js, Plotly, or Highcharts).
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret data.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectively in a team environment.

Position Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with React.js or other frontend frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Python for data manipulation (Pandas, NumPy).
  • Knowledge of basic SQL for database querying.
  • Previous internship or personal projects showcasing data visualization

Duration of appointment:

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 12 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

Remuneration details:

Salary Band: CYI3(1-14) – Junior Specialised Research Technical Scientist

Position’s Starting Salary: CYI3.1 - €30,353.05
