Director of Communications
The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is a leading research university, ranked in the Top 501–600 worldwide in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
UNIC Health, supporting the strategic growth and international positioning of its Medical School, School of Veterinary Medicine and Medical Centre, is seeking to appoint a full-time Director of Communications - UNIC Health, based in Nicosia, to join its senior leadership team.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning, coordination and execution of all internal and external communication activities across UNIC Health, including but not limited to:
- Design, implement and oversee a comprehensive and integrated communications strategy aligned with UNIC Health’s mission, vision and strategic objectives.
- Ensure the consistent, coherent and high-quality presentation of the UNIC Health brand across all platforms, audiences and geographic locations.
- Act as the primary point of contact with local and international media.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with journalists, editors, media organisations and key opinion leaders.
- Oversee the creation, editing and dissemination of communications material, including press releases, newsletters, announcements, invitations, feature stories, promotional videos and institutional publications.
- Supervise, mentor and guide communications staff, ensuring implementation of best practices and professional standards.
- Oversee digital communications, website content and online presence (webmaster responsibilities).
- Plan, coordinate and manage major institutional events, conferences, launches, graduation ceremonies and public engagement activities.
- Plan, coordinate, manage and communicate the activities of the Medical School mobile clinic, ensuring effective operational delivery, public engagement and visibility of its societal impact.
- Host and manage visits of media representatives, partners and guests.
- Undertake travel within Cyprus and abroad, as required, to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required; a Master’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Strategic Communication, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs, including leadership responsibilities.
- Excellent command of Greek and English, both written and spoken.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations with a strong professional network.
- Strong leadership, people management and mentoring skills.
- Experience in digital communications, content strategy and institutional web management.
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling abilities, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, integrity and sound judgment.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the European Union / European Economic Area.
