The International School of Paphos

TheInternational School of Paphos (ISOP) was established in 1987 and is the oldest private school in Paphos.  It has been providing quality education services catering for children from the age of 2½ (Kindergarten) all the way up to 18/19 (‘A’ Levels).  In addition to the Cypriot students, the school caters for the increasing re-patriating Cypriot population as well as students from all over the world.

 The school is registered with the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture.   

ISOP’s official language is English and it follows an enhanced English National Curriculum.  However, it is mindful of the local culture.  Furthermore, the European frame of mind pertaining to all curricula and wider education matters is evident throughout the school.  Although the language of instruction is English, a rich Greek programme is in place to allow both Greek and non-Greek children to learn the language and appreciate the local culture.  Strong emphasis continues to be given to modern foreign languages (German and French are also taught in the Secondary School) while Information Technology is being taught from age five.  A variety of extra-curricular activities is organised to allow children to use their time creatively, cultivate their talents, and enhance their skills.

In our Kindergarten we teach towards the Early Learning goals and with the curriculum from Primary School we lay firm foundations for the multi-faceted development of each child.  The curriculum includes the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Citizenship, Physical Education, Art, Music, Computing and Greek.

The same subjects continue to be offered in Years 7 to 9 (Key Stage 3) with the addition of French, German and Drama.  After Year 9 (Key Stag, the programme is further enhanced with the addition of Economics, Business Studies, English Literature, Physical Education where students can choose from 19 examination subjects on offer, based on an option system.  The ‘AS’ and ‘A’ Level programme, in Years 12 and 13, is equally wide.  Our students have been receiving awards for their excellent results at IGCSE and ‘A’ Levels, regularly.

The school also offers a wide range of subjects through its afternoon Institute, both for its pupils and children from the community.  Our Summer School which runs from the end of June through July attracts many children.  It offers English classes as well as sports and creative activities.

 A core of excellent, highly-qualified teachers and assistants, many of whom have been with the school since its inception, provide a friendly but disciplined learning environment, co-operate closely with the parents and strive to allow all students to make the best of their abilities.

 In September 2006, the school moved to its modern, purpose-built facility on the outskirts of Paphos.  Surrounded by a green field area, yet only five minutes away from the town centre, the premises ensure a healthy, safe, aesthetically pleasing, functional and stimulating environment, conducive to teaching and learning.  The facility features: outstanding indoor and outdoor sports facilities including an indoor, heated swimming pool and a multi-purpose Sports Hall, a science and creative arts block, a library, a cafeteria, play areas for the different age groups, well-lit spacious classrooms and administration areas equipped with the latest technology. technology.
