We are looking to recruit a talented and creative engineer to work on a promising and recently funded project that aims to create a unique interface for communication using the sense of touch. The project starts in the summer of 2021. You will be part of a dynamic start-up which focuses on projects that have positive human, social and environmental impact. You will become a member of the core team that will work on establishing sustainable growth and lead product development and commercialization. Throughout the project you will have the opportunity to follow the evolution of a product from the laboratory to the market and interact with potential users through tests and focus groups. Also, you will have the chance to collaborate with our partners undertaking the dissemination, commercialization and business aspects of the project.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and test tactile effects through actuated tactile interfaces
• Study, understand and apply touch and hearing related scientific research
• Design and realize quantitative and qualitative user studies
• Implement statistical methods to analyse quantitative and qualitative data
• Develop mathematical and computational models of physical processes relating to touch and interfaces
• Contribute to the design and development of integrated products that convey information through touch
• Participate in the management, reporting, dissemination and commercialization aspects of the project through articles, conferences, meetings, presentations, etc.

Requirements

• Previous participation in research projects and/or product testing involving users
• Experience or training in user study design for qualitative and quantitative investigations
• Comfortable with scientific and professional writing and communication
• Experience in interface design (touch, wearable robots, assistive devices, etc.) and prototyping (3D modelling/simulations, 3D printing, breadboard prototypes, COTS electronics, etc.).
• Basic programming skills (i.e., C++, Python) and excellent skills in computational coding (i.e., MATLAB, GNU Octave, etc.).

Education: Graduate degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering or related field. Benefits: A competitive salary will be offered based on experience and level of education.
