The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.
The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as Web Developer in the STARC. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our development team to implement responsive and scalable web applications, primarily related to the development of knowledge repositories, implementation of ontologies, semantic structures and knowledge graphs, associated with the development of a European Cloud for Cultural Heritage. The successful candidate will work in an international, multi-disciplinary and pluri-cultural context and in collaboration with major European research institutes.
The initial period of the appointment will be for 24 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:
- Develop and implement high-quality front-end code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, adhering to best practices and industry standards.
- Collaborate with designers to translate UI/UX designs into responsive web pages.
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and optimize applications for maximum speed
- and scalability.
- Create and maintain reusable code libraries and frameworks to streamline development processes.
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging of web applications to identify and resolve any issues or bugs.
- Collaborate with back-end developers and stakeholders to integrate front-end components with server-side logic.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in front-end development and apply them to enhance our applications.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including designers, developers, academics, archaeologists, and more.
- Assist in estimating and planning projects, providing input on feasibility and timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field
- Familiarity with back-end technologies, such as Django.
- Experience with RESTful APIs.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
- Understanding of web performance optimization techniques.
- Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Web Developer or a similar role.
- Experience with front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Knowledge of server-side rendering and SEO best practices.
- Solid understanding of responsive web design principles and mobile-first development.
- Understanding of accessibility standards and experience in implementing accessible web interfaces.
