The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post-graduate education. Within this context, CyI in cooperation with Advanced Partners Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, University of Helsinki and Commission for Atomic Energy – Laboratory for Sciences of the Climate and the Environment, established the “(CARE-C) Eastern Mediterranean Middle East – Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre of Excellence” under Horizon 2020 – TEAMING Grant no. 856612.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly motivated individual to join the Institute as a Technical Laboratory Assistant to work in the broader field of the activities of the Unmanned System Research Laboratory (USRL).

The position offers excellent possibilities for professional development in the framework of the EU H2020 project “EMME-CARE” (Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre; TEAMING Grant no. 856612).

The Technical Laboratory Assistant will contribute to and support the operation of the USRL of the Cyprus Institute. More specifically the selected candidate will contribute for the smooth operation of a number of activities in the USRL, and will support technical staff and researchers in their work. Training will be provided by CyI researchers, and the successful candidate is expected to pick up on that training and provide support in the research and development carried out.

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 1 year with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Support on purchasing and procurement procedures of the facility
  2. Support on keeping internal records such as purchases and procurement documents
  3. Organisation of infrastructure and maintenance activities (laboratories and Orounda)
  4. Support on logistics of campaigns
  5. Support on preparation of flights/operations

Required Qualifications

  1. School Certificate
  2. Good command of the Greek and English languages
  3. Very good communication skills
  4. Very good organizational skills
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in/familiarisation with laboratory work.
  • Experience with procurement procedures
  • Experience in recordkeeping
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and measures relevant to lab/technical activities
