The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European Non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its four Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC) and the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute at the position of Project Officer. The Officer will be a member of the Research and Innovation Management Support structure of the Institute, attached to the Energy Environment and Water Research Centre (EEWRC) and the EEWRC WATER Division. The successful candidate will work closely with all personnel of the Center and the RIMS office and shall be mainly engaged with the development, management and implementation of the administrative and budgetary activities of the Center’s research projects, under the supervision of the Director of EEWRC as well as support the research activities of the EEWRC Water Division. More specifically, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the implementation of funded projects, communicate with partners with minimal guidance, and aid in the development and writing of research and innovation project proposals. Among the projects is the new WEFE4MED cooperation and support action, funded by PRIMA, the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area. The WEFE4MED project will gather scientists, practitioners, policymakers, investors, local authorities, the media and other stakeholders in a Mediterranean Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus Community of Practice (NCoP) to provide convincing practical and scientific evidence of the Nexus benefits as a basis for decision-making in integrated natural resources management.

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 24 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Assistance to Project Management:
    1. Support research project oversight
    2. Support project administration/coordination (timesheets, progress & financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding organizations)
    3. Support logistics for events and meetings
    4. Communicate with project partners and stakeholders
    5. Assist with the updating of the EEWRC and Water Division websites
  2. Proposal preparation:
    1. Participate in communication with funding agencies, the European Commission and the National Contact Points for getting clarification on various aspects of proposal writing and the relevant regulations
    2. Support in the identification of funding opportunities
    3. Aid in the development and creation of project proposals for research Grants and Services-Tenders.
  3. Responsibilities related to WEFE4MED Project :
    1. Ensure smooth internal communications with and among the WEFE4MED consortium partners, project advisory board members, and project management committee
    2. Convene project meetings and events
    3. Keep track of all project deliverables and milestones, and ensure their timely delivery
    4. Ensure smooth communication with external stakeholders
    5. Ensure timely project reporting using the relevant platform (financial and narrative reporting)
    6. Oversight of the elaboration and coordination of the Nexus Community of Practice
    7. Oversight of social media and external communication content

 

Required Qualifications

  1. BSc in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environment-related Sciences or Business or Project Management
  2. Excellent knowledge of the English, Greek languages both verbally and in writing.
  3. Excellent knowledge of MS office and internet IT tools
  4. Previous experience in monitoring and reporting of national and EU-funded projects
  5. High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural/multidisciplinary environment
  6. High level organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution in a related field
  • Background or work experience in environmental sciences or related subject.  
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as, Environment-related sciences or Project Management, MBA would be a plus
  • Experience in managing EU-funded research projects would be an advantage
