The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI are pursued at its four Research Centers: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC) and the Climate and Atmospheric Research Center (CARE-C). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for highly qualified and motivated individuals to join the organisation as Assistant Officers or Officers. The successful candidates will contribute and execute activities in the field of administration related to the nature of a research organization and academia. They will be expected to carry out a variety of administrative tasks in support of the Institute’s units and offices.

The successful candidates must be highly creative and enjoy working within a research and academic environment that is results-driven and community-oriented. The candidates must have the ability to exercise sound judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, strong administrative, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with multiple priorities. The Assistant Officer/Officer must be able to work under pressure at times and handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters.

Depending on their qualifications, experience and interests, the selected candidates will have the opportunity to administratively support (partly or fully) the EMME-Climate Change Initiative, a regional action of the Cyprus Government, running under the umbrella of the CyI. 

The rank of the position will depend on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.  The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 1-year with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

 

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Provides high-level administrative support
  2. Works as part of a team on a wide range of programs, projects, special initiatives, and events;
  3. Actively participates in the development, implementation and communication of initiatives, projects and procedures
  4. Actively contribute in the organization and execution of general activities of appointed unit
  5. Responding to internal and external inquiries and provides the necessary support
  6. Prepare material and assist in the planning, coordination, logistics and support of a variety of meetings and special events;
  7. Support on the day-to-day activities of the appointed unit

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or professional qualification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Greek languages, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members and external partners
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and response

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years in a relevant position
  • Proven track record of relevant training participation
