Laboratory Technician
The University of Nicosia School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a well-qualified and motivated professional to join our team for the post of Laboratory Technician.
The successful candidate will be based in Nicosia and will be supporting the Laboratory team as a full time Laboratory Technician.
Main Responsibilities:
- Set up of the teaching stations for anatomy sessions
- Produce specimen dissections/prosections for veterinary anatomy sessions (if necessary)
- Maintain a clean and tidy lab and storeroom, including trolleys, equipment and plastic models
- Ensure clinical waste is properly collected for official disposal
- Maintain animal anatomic specimen collection and database, including equipment inventory and plastinated specimens
- Assist and support the veterinary clinical/communication skills sessions (requires working with and the care of live animals)
- Assist veterinary students with SDL anatomy and clinical skills practice during working hours
- Assist with veterinary OSCE setup and support
- Assist with receiving new equipment, consumables, and animal specimens (may require heavy lifting)
- Follow the laboratory policies of the Veterinary School, especially Health & Safety codes
Requirements:
- Veterinary anatomy knowledge with anatomy dissection/prosection
- Undergraduate science degree (minimum) – postgraduate studies an advantage
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and command of the English language, both verbal and written
- Team player and attention to detail when independently producing anatomical specimens and the anatomy teaching session preparation
- Proven ability to function in a demanding environment managing conflicting priorities
- Innovative thinker who is positive, proactive, and readily embraces change
- Ability to handle students professionally during all interfaces and at all levels of the organization
