CORE JOB INFORMATION

Working hours: Full time – 40 hours per week – 5/6 days per week

Position reports to: Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer,

PROFILE

The Head Gardener will supervise the general maintenance and beautification of all gardens, plants and lawns of the Hotel grounds, in the most efficient and effective manner, delivering the highest possible standards of service to all guests; the Head Gardener will also be pro-active in maintaining and/or improving department profitability in accordance with the Hotel policies, procedures and standards.  

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and maintain all garden sections and operations to create an attractive environment,
  • Ensure the daily supervision of all subordinates and external partners; implement and ensure their training so they demonstrate knowledge and ability in all standards and required daily work,
  • Preserve excellent levels of internal and external customer service; interact with guests,
  • Assist in leading the team by recruiting, managing and developing talents,
  • Develop and manage energy/resources conservation programs to minimise costs,
  • Actively participate in the operations and inspections, be vigilantly attentive to details, 
  • Assist with stock count and ensure cost control measures are adhered to,

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Minimum of 4 years’ (proven) experience in a similar position in high end hotels,
  • Organisation and leadership skills; able to multitask and follow instructions,
  • Excellent knowledge of gardening and landscaping techniques; in-depth knowledge of storage and safety of fertilizers, plant protection chemicals, pesticides and gardening equipment,
  • Good attention to detail and creativity,
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with co-workers and guests,
  • Proficiency in another language will be considered an advantage,
  • A certificate in gardening skills is desirable; a high school diploma will be considered an advantage,
  • Comply with Cyprus legislation and be conversant with and act in accordance with any such matters relating to their department
