The IRIDA Research Centre for Communication Technologies invites applications for Special Scientists (Assistant Researchers) in the area of wireless communications.
The IRIDA Research Centre for Communication Technologies (http://iridacentre.ucy.ac.cy) is a recently established research centre at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Cyprus, conducting both basic and applied research in the broad area of wireless communication theory and its applications.
The open positions concern fundamental and blue-sky research in wireless powered communications (WPC) under the framework of the highly prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant APOLLO (Advanced Signal Processing Technologies for Wireless Powered Communications). The APOLLO project has a duration of 5 years and the selected candidates will investigate the fundamental limits of WPC and the integration of wireless power transfer in future wireless communication systems.
The positions refer to candidates with background in signal processing, communication theory, information theory, optimization, machine learning or other relevant field.

PROFILE - QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should hold a Bachelor degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or any other relevant field. A Masters degree or equivalent will be considered as an advantage.
The candidate should preferably have some knowledge and experience in a number of the topics listed above.
Development skills in MATLAB or C++ are required. Knowledge of software-define radio systems and development skills in NI Labview will be considered as an advantage.
Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS
Initially a one year contract will be offered which may be renewed annually subject to performance evaluation. The successful candidates are expected to sign their contract and start their new position by 2 December 2019, the latest.
The monthly gross salary will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and expertise and will be between €1700-€2200. The 13th salary bonus is incorporated in the monthly salary. The University of Cyprus provides the opportunity, if the employee desires, to become a member at the Governmental Medical Plan (annual cost per person €450) or join the Private Medical Scheme (cost of 3.95% of gross salary).
Maternity leave will be granted based on Maternity Protection Laws 1997 to 2011.
