We are working in partnership with a company operating bulk carriers, who are currently looking for an ambitious Engineer to join them as Superintendent Engineer in their Limassol office. 

They are looking for an experienced Superintendent Engineer who has the ability to organize and focus on delivering solutions. If you are a Chief Engineer with extensive Bulk Carrier experience and proven experience ashore, then our client can offer an exciting career opportunity. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the safe and efficient performance of the Company’s managed vessels.
  • Assuring the efficient maintenance and repair of the assigned vessels in the most efficient manner, consistent with the approved budgets.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the day to day performance of the assigned vessels, ensuring that they operate in accordance with all applicable regulations and the Company’s policies and procedures and initiating corrective actions when such performance does not meet company and/or Owners standards.
  • Conducting regular ship inspections, including structural assessment of cargo and ballast tanks, completing the relevant superintendent inspection reports and the findings are tracked and dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that necessary preparations have been made for the vessel’s third party inspections (PSC/FLAG/USCG).
  • Liaising with class and flag state to ensure that the vessels are operated in compliance with all relevant international requirements.
  • Maintaining all Class and Statutory Surveys (Flag) within the “due dates” and following up the rectification of all findings (CoC and Recommendations) issued prior to the expiry dates.
  • Following up on routine maintenance and monitoring of PMS requirements and entries relating to the vessels.
  • Maintaining and reviewing all technical records, measurements, calibrations, running hours, lubricants, water treatment reports, etc., related to assigned vessels.
  • Ensuring that life-saving and firefighting equipment such as life rafts and releases, resuscitators, breathing/escape sets, portable fire extinguishers, fixed foam and / or CO2 requirements will be settled such as service, annual inspection, renewal and issuance of relevant certificates.
  • Monitoring of all portable gas instruments inventory and condition.
  • Maintaining and following up defect lists received from the assigned vessels, providing for the necessary support to assure that defects addressed and are promptly dealt with, in an efficient manner.
  • Preparing vessel’s schedules, specifications, and budgets for dry docking and major repairs, and submit the same to the Technical Manager for review and approval.
  • Supervising and attending where required vessel surveys and repairs afloat or at dry dock.
  • Monitoring and controlling expenses during dry-docking and major repairs.
  • Co-ordinate the employment of subcontractors engaged in major repairs of dry-dock.
  • Evaluating the need/convenience for the employment of riding squads for specific jobs, and where such teams are employed, liaise, organize, and monitor their performance.
  • Checking and approving of invoices submitted for payment regarding the vessel’s technical issues.
  • Reviewing and / or preparing reports on the performance of Masters/Chief Officers and Chief Engineers.
  • Reviewing Officers/Crew Evaluations that are submitted by the vessel.
  • Identify training needs for shipboard personnel and inform the Technical Manager.
  • Participate in inter-departmental meetings.
  • Assisting the DPA and/or S&Q Manager in the investigation of incidents and non-conformities occurred onboard the company’s vessels, ensuring that proper corrective/preventive actions are being taken and implemented onboard.
  • Ensure compliance of the vessels with the Company’s Safety Management System.
  • Carrying out Internal Audits onboard and/or ashore upon request of the DPA and/or S&Q Manager if qualified and certified for the purpose.
  • Acting as a member of the Emergency Response Team, if requested.
  • Submitting and cooperating in the review of proposals for improving the system.

Candidate Profile:

  • University Graduate in Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture 
  • Previous experience in a similar position and/or Sea Service as Chief Engineer.
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
