The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (www.kios.ucy.ac.cy) at the University of Cyprus announces one (1) Special Scientist for Research (Research Associate) position, for full-time employment. The successful candidate will conduct research in a variety of research projects, national and EU-funded, regarding legal and ethical aspects of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Unmanned Aircraft Systems and similar technologies. He/ She may also provide research assistance in other areas of EU and Cypriot private law, especially air law, tort law and insurance law.

Who we are:
The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence is the largest research center at the University of Cyprus and in 2017 was upgraded to a European Research Center of Excellence through the KIOS CoE Teaming project. Currently, the Center employs more than 180 people who are supported by externally funded research and innovation projects. The KIOS CoE operates in a diverse environment as an equal opportunity employer.

Job Details

The successful candidate is expected to:
• Conduct research on the legal framework and the ethical parameters of ITS, UAS and similar technologies, including issues related to the use of Artificial Intelligence.
• Attend project meetings (online and physically, both in Cyprus and Europe).
• Prepare reports and project deliverables.
• Prepare research proposals.
• Assist in the supervision of undergraduate students.
• Publish results in international conferences and journals.

The following will be considered a strong advantage (one or more):
• Knowledge of the Greek language
• Knowledge of the Cypriot law
• Proven knowledge of air law
• Proven knowledge of EU transport law
• Proven knowledge of EU product liability and product safety law
• Postgraduate degree (LL.M or other) related to one or more of the above legal fields
• Doctorate degree (PhD) related to one or more of the above legal fields
• Practical experience in handling cases related to transport liability and regulation

Qualifications:
• Law Degree
• Proven experience in research projects
• Very good knowledge of EU private law

Employment Terms:
The position is on a contract basis. Initially, a one-year contract will be offered, with a 6-month probation period, which is renewable based on satisfactory performance evaluation. The gross monthly salary depends on the candidate’s qualifications and experience and will be between €1400-€1800. From this amount, employee contributions to the Cyprus government funds will be deducted. A 13th salary bonus is incorporated in the monthly salary. Maternity leave will be granted based on Maternity Protection Law 1997(Ν.100(Ι)/1997), and the existing amendment laws.

• A detailed curriculum vitae in English or in Greek
• Copy of an English language certificate
• Identify at least two referees that can provide reference letters.
