The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European Non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its four Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC) and the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute at the position of Communications & Marketing Officer for the CARE-C Centre of Excellence.

The Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) is a Center of Excellence conducting research, innovation and education activities focused on addressing climate change and air pollution in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East, a region that has been recognized as a global climate change hotspot. CARE-C was established at the CyI in January 2020 through the Horizon 2020 TEAMING project EMME-CARE (emme-care.cyi.ac.cy; Grant no. 856612).

Under the co-supervision of the CARE-C Director and the CARE-C Managing Coordinator, the successful candidate will contribute in the planning, execution and evaluation of all communication, dissemination and exploitation activities of CARE-C, nationally and internationally (in the EMME region, Europe, and beyond). The successful candidate will actively promote the work, results and value of CARE-C to both internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to the development and delivery of activities for the expansion of its reach and impact, including the organization and promotion of events, communications campaigns and other related actions.

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 12-months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and CARE-C/Institute needs. A competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Support the planning, implementation and evaluation of effective marketing and communications activities for internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Contribute to the updating, and day-to-day maintenance of CARE-C’s online presence, including the website and social media of EMME-CARE and other CARE-C initiatives.
  3. Help source CARE-C news, and contribute to creating and publishing original content through relevant channels (digital and print).
  4. Contribute to the preparation of promotional material for CARE-C (e.g. videos, banners, flyers) and plan and implement their distribution.
  5. Support the organization of events (e.g. workshops, conferences, summer schools) and the delivery of effective campaigns for their promotion.
  6. Contribute to the delivery and reporting requirements of Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation activities for CARE-C’s national and EU funded projects.
  7. Support the handling of enquires from media and other stakeholders, scheduling press interviews and visits as required.
  8. Help maintain CARE-C’s contacts database.
  9. Maintain records of media coverage, and collate analytics and metrics from all activities.
  10. Support scoping and pursuing of new opportunities, including through contributing to preliminary market research and competitive proposal writing.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or other discipline in business, science, social sciences or humanities from an accredited institution
  2. At least 2 years of relevant experience
  3. Proven professional experience in communications and/or marketing
  4. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Greek
  5. Strong writing and promotional content creation skills
  6. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail), and social media platforms
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  8. Ability to adapt to a multicultural/multidisciplinary research environment
  9. High level of organizational, analytical, creative and problem-solving skills
  10. Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in communications and/or marketing within a research/academic Institution
  • Experience with implementation and/or reporting of Communication, Dissemination, Exploitation requirements of national and EU-funded projects
  • Good knowledge of graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva) and/or web design software (e.g. WordPress)
  • Experience with web analytics and content management systems
  • Good awareness and understanding of Environmental and Climate Change issues
